Get ready for the rabbit
As we are located in North Beach, (right next to Chinatown) and one of my favorite family traditions is to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I’m looking forward to our annual Loud Dog celebration with some dim sum at Gold Mountain on Broadway next week. This year, Chinese New Year’s day is Thursday, Feb 3 and we’re ringing in the year of the Rabbit. If you’re a rabbit, you were born in one of these years: 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and of course this year, 2011. Here’s some fun info if you want to know more about the tradition of Chinese New Year and their zodiac.
In the meantime, while I wait with anticipation, I’m going to have to practice one of the few Cantonese phrases I know: Gung Hei Fat Choy! (which according to wikipedia, loosely translates to “Congratulations and be prosperous”) Try it out if you’re in Chinatown this February. It is sure to bring you some smiles from those who know.
And let us know if you’ve got a favorite dim sum place on your list. We love to try new places.
